Payton Cormier (“PC”) led the University of Virginia Cavaliers in scoring last season with fifty goals, becoming Virginia’s fifth 50-goal scorer in a single season.

Cormier recorded a team-best 14 multi-goal games in 2022, including nine hat tricks. With six goals against Johns Hopkins, Cormier became the first player since 2013 to score at least six goals in multiple games. His 3.12 goals-per-game average was good for third in the ACC.

It was a record year for Cormier, who also received USILA Scholar All-American honors. The USILA Scholar All-American Program recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities.

Cormier started playing lacrosse when he was 3-years-old, playing box and eventually field lacrosse for the Mimico Minor Lacrosse Club. He enrolled at the University of Virginia in the summer of 2018 and continued playing box lacrosse with the Mimico Junior A Mountaineers in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League.

A multi-sport athlete, Cormier also grew up playing hockey, something he says helped him excel in lacrosse and vice versa.

“With using my hands in tight places, hockey was one of the best things for me. I was happy that I didn’t stop playing hockey until the year that I got to UVA.”
