In memory of John JR Robinson

John ‘JR’ Robinson was mentored by the Mimico Minor Lacrosse Club and took to coaching shortly after his playing career ended. He was the Head Coach of the Mimico Junior B Mountaineers from 2001 to 2005, winning Coach of the Year in 2001. After coaching junior, he returned his focus to minor lacrosse where he served as President of the Mimico Minor Lacrosse Club.

John was a coach, teammate and friend to many in the Ontario Lacrosse community. He was recognized for his years of service when he received the Ontario Lacrosse Association's 20 years of service award and in 2010; he was the recipient of the Thomas "Tip" Teather Trophy, the highest individual award for outstanding contribution to lacrosse in Ontario.

In 2010, Mimico Lacrosse introduced the John ‘JR’ Robinson Award to be presented annually to a member of the club who is considered to have done the most to promote, foster, and grow the game of lacrosse in our community.

Following a courageous battle with cancer, John passed away on March 15, 2012 at the age of 44. The Mimico Mountaineers Invitational Tournament was renamed in his memory the following season.
